A Chubb lock is basically the old style 5 lever mortice deadlock that most wooden doors used to have. Proper solid locks when they were first put in. Some people still call every mortice lock a “Chubb” out of habit, even when it’s another brand.
Usually, we find that rather than being proactive with their home security, people tend to call for our locksmith services when there is an issue. This is particularly true of commercial properties.
Typically, this means that people replace their Chubb lock when it’s worn, when the bolt won’t throw properly, when the key’s bent, or when their insurer wants a proper British Standard 5 lever mortice.
Often, older locks don’t always meet BS3621, so they are not insurance approved, so upgrading is pretty common now, especially if you’re in a Central London property with a wooden front door where you are in need of high security locks.
Often, the Chubb Lock itself won’t need replacing, there will be some other issue, usually with the door frame. The good news here? You don’t need a new lock.
