    24-hour emergency locksmith services

As emergency locksmiths, we deal with these sort of situations all the time. We’ve heard it all, from you just rushed out, to juggling bags and answering the buzzer, taking rubbish down, dealing with kids, or just stepping out “for a second.”

The end results: The door swung shut. The latch clicked. And now you’re stuck outside with no key, wondering what to do next.

It’s simple, really. Just give us a call. Our aim is always the same: gain entry with the door lock intact, no damage, no drama, and no upselling.

Most locked-out-of-house calls are simple. A bit of careful work, a bit of manipulation, and the door opens cleanly. Some take more finesse. Either way, we handle all of it.

Why “No Key” Lockouts Happen So Easily

No key lockouts are by far one of our most frequently requested emergency locksmith services. Literally, they happen ALL of the time, and to everyone, so don’t worry.

Typically though, people assume being locked out means they lost the keys somewhere. But this isn’t the case, far from it. Half the time the keys are right there, inside the house, inside the flat, inside the bedroom.

Some of the most common scenarios? Do any of these sound familair?

    • You stepped out for a parcel and the wind shut the door

    • You headed to the bin with the keys inside on the counter

    • You share the flat and someone left with the only spare key

    • You closed the door before checking pockets

    • The key was left in the inside of a thumbturn cylinder

    • Bags got swapped and no one realised the keys weren’t in the usual place

    • A child locked the door behind them

    • You meant to grab the keys but were distracted

What We Actually Do When We Arrive

Unfortunately, real lockouts rarely match the internet guides. The first step isn’t “insert tool A into slot B.” We check the whole picture; there is a whole world of details that we check as a professional locksmith service. We check:

    • What type of door lock is it?

    • Is the latch under pressure from the frame?

    • Is the bolt sitting cleanly or slightly twisted?

    • Are we dealing with Yale locks, roller rim locks, older mortice locks, or a modern smart setup?

    • Is the cylinder blocked by a key left on the inside?

    • Is it a uPVC door where the gearbox might be involved?

    • Has someone previously forced the lock?

    • Is the locked door simply stuck because the weather expanded the frame?

Once we know this, and only once we know all of this, we are able to work effectively. We use proper lock opening techniques, not brute force. This opens the door but causes a right old mess to release the mechanism leading to the lock opening.

In our extensive experience, most doors open with non-destructive entry: controlled tension, bypass tools, manipulation, fine picks, and slight pressure at the right angle.

As professional locksmiths, we endeavour to ensure that:

If the lock is healthy, we don’t damage it.
In case the lock is worn, we will show you.
If the latch is stuck, we ease it.

No guessing. No rushing. And no unnecessary drilling. Just good old-fashioned emergency locksmith services.

Locked Out of House With Keys Inside

This is the most common call we get. By far.

We get it, you’re standing there, staring at your own front door, knowing the keys inside are only a metre away but completely useless.

The good news… When the key is inside, and the lock isn’t damaged, the door almost always opens without replacing anything.

    We simply:

    • pick the night latch,

    • bypass the latch,

    • or ease the strike plate enough to free the bolt.

The lock intact approach is always the priority. This also helps to keep costs down, which is always good, right?

However, if the lock is a cylinder that’s been left with a key inside, we need to use different techniques to move the cam without stressing the mechanism.

Nothing gets broken unless the lock itself is already broken.

    Lost Keys Out in London

Now, if the keys are lost somewhere in the city: on the bus, in a taxi, left at work, dropped in the street: you might think it is the end of the world, and well, that’s a different situation. But it isn’t the end of the world.

There is still good news… we can still open the door cleanly, but the next question is security.

But, if you’re not sure where the keys ended up, or someone could pick them up, it’s usually best to change locks once you’re inside.

We won’t push replacement if you don’t need it. We explain your options, including:

    • new cylinders

    • like-for-like replacements

    • upgraded security

    • or fitting a new key system if wanted

Every property is different. We walk you through what makes sense for yours. Even if you have a spare key, if there is a chance that someone who has found your key also has your address, it is safer to get a new lock installed, as a local London locksmith, that is our recommendation.

Opening High Security Locks Without Damage

If you’ve got high-security locks and you are locked out, then you need a high-quality lockout service. Luckily, we provide it!

Now, you might assume non-destructive methods won’t work. But most high-security cylinders, anti-snap locks, and advanced night latches can still be opened carefully with specialist picks and proper tension control.

    We open:

    • high-security night latches

    • reinforced rim cylinders

    • anti-bump and anti-drill cylinders

    • high-rated composite door locks

    • uPVC multipoint cylinders

    • smart locks (depending on model)

The key? Technique, not force. Oh, and our specialist equipment, of course!

However, if the lock is completely seized or structurally failed, we’ll explain the reason before doing anything. But most still open without harm.

Oh, and always check if your neighbour has a spare key!

Is Drilling Necessary? Only as a Last Resort

People worry we’ll immediately reach for a drill. We don’t.

If a locksmith opens the door with a drill as the first port of call, then you need to call someone for a second opinion… They’re not your best bet.

We only drill a lock when:

    • the cylinder has collapsed internally

    • the cam is completely jammed

    • there’s metal debris inside

    • someone else already damaged the lock

    • the bolt is physically stuck behind the frame

    • the mechanism has failed beyond repair

Drilling is rare, but if we have to do it, we do it cleanly. Afterwards, we fit a fresh cylinder so you leave with a smooth, working lock.

That is just what being a good emergency locksmith is all about. Lock picking, door opening and customer satisfaction.

Locked Out No Key on a uPVC Door

Now, uPVC doors behave differently. But most people assume the uPVC door is the problem, but this isn’t the case. Typically, we find that it’s the lock mechanism, found inside, otherwise known as the gearbox, that’s stuck, worn, or misaligned.

There are many reasons this happens, including why the door is not locking properly. Common causes include:

    • handle lifted too hard

    • door dropped slightly

    • gearbox grinding or slipping

    • multipoint hooks stuck

    • roller cams not realigning

    • pressure from the frame

Now, luckily, we know how to open these safely. Most of the time, we can open them without drilling, even if the handle feels dead. Now that’s reliable service.

Locked Out of a Flat With a Communal Door

Communal doors, they can most certainly add an extra layer of hassle because you’re stuck outside the building before you even reach your flat. But, if you are unable to get in touch with a neighbour to let you in, we are able to deal with communal entrances, providing the building rules and landlord allow it. In many cases, we will need to speak with the building manager in order to facilitate this.

If your spare set isn’t available, you have no way to get inside. So, calling an emergency locksmith if you are locked out of your flat may be your last resort.

Flat doors will often have strong fire-rated closers, so excessive pressure can trap the latch. These open cleanly, too; you just need the right technique. We know the right technique to open your door.

Locked Out No Key Late at Night

Lockouts never pick convenient hours. But that’s why emergency locksmith services are called emergency locksmith services! We see calls at:

    • 5am

    • midnight

    • after work

    • during bank holidays

    • during storms

    • early morning school runs

Our view is simple: if you’re locked out of house, the time of day doesn’t matter. We come, open the door, and make sure everything is secure before we leave.

We ensure a quick response, and arrive fully equipped to open your door, whatever time of day (or night) it is. Our normal working hours are your emergency hours!

    What About Breaking a Window?

You might be surprised, but this is often peoples first thought. And people ask this more than you’d expect. Breaking a window sounds quick, but:

    • glass is expensive to replace

    • some windows won’t open afterward

    • security becomes an immediate risk

    • double glazing can cost more than the locksmith

    • landlords are rarely happy about broken windows

As a London locksmith, you should let us handle the lock mechanism. It’s cheaper, safer, and much faster than breaking a window.

Should I Call the Police or Fire Brigade?

No, not for a normal lockout. They won’t open a locked out no key situation unless someone is in danger.
They will tell you to call locksmith services instead.

Emergency crews won’t pick locks, and they aren’t trained to open residential doors non-destructively.

    We are.

How Long Does It Take to Open the Door?

Well, how long is a piece of string? Yeah, we know, but its impossible to give an EXACT estimate. We get it all the time, people often ask, How long does it take?

    It depends on:

    • the type of lock

    • whether the key is stuck inside

    • the condition of the latch

    • frame movement

    • whether it’s a deadbolt, rim lock, or cylinder

    • if it’s a uPVC multipoint lock

    • past damage

With that being said, here is our best guess, most doors take:

    • 2–10 minutes for standard latch locks

    • 5–15 minutes for cylinders

    • 10–30 minutes for heavy mortice locks

    • variable if someone previously forced the lock

We don’t drag jobs out. Fast, clean entry, that’s the focus.

    Transparent Pricing — No Games

As emergency and local locksmiths, we keep costs sensible. Before starting, we explain:

    • the entry method

    • whether the lock is healthy

    • if you need a replacement

    • how long it should take

    • your options for new keys or cylinders

Whether it’s early morning or late evening, we stay consistent.

Just proper work for a proper price.

Why Not Use a Coat Hanger, Bank Card, or YouTube Trick?

Internal locks? Maybe, but still a risk. Exterior locks, no?

Trying to slip a card into a tight wooden frame or a sealed composite door does nothing except damage the edges.

Trying YouTube techniques on modern cylinders often breaks the mechanism.

Once broken, non-destructive entry may no longer be possible.

Online ‘tricks’ cause more emergency lockouts than they solve. And they certainly add extra costs!

FAQs – Locked Out No Key

Locked out no key – what should I do first?

Call us. Don’t force the lock or try DIY tricks. Just call a local locksmith and we’ll check the door and open it cleanly.

Can you open the door lock without damaging it?

Yes, most locked doors open using non destructive entry, especially if the lock is healthy and the issue is simply keys left inside.

How long does it take to open the door?

Usually? Just few minutes for most locks. Heavier locks or older mortice locks take longer, but we explain everything before we start.

What if my house keys are completely lost?

If this is the case, we can still gain entry and, if needed, change locks so you’re secure again with a new key.

      Are you MLA approved?

No. We’re not part of the master locksmiths association, and we don’t claim to be. We rely on experience, proper tools, and straightforward service.

Can you open a uPVC door with no key?

Yes. Most uPVC door locks open cleanly once we understand how the mechanism is sitting inside the frame.
